The forgetfulness of the past helps men to exercise their free will. One conducts himself far more freely while thinking that both his thoughts and past behaviour are kept in secrecy. If we remembered all the details of our past lives, we would be resorted to know not only about our own evil, but also about our neighbour's. As a consequence, our neighbours would also know all the evil regarding our own past lives... Think. Would you like them knowing too much about you? Would it be useful? If it were the case, what kind of new recommence would be each reincarnation? What about the God's goodness, if He allowed others to remember all our ill-doing of our past existences? In an imperfect planet like ours, where the evil still has much power, many persons would not feel themselves free, if they knew that there are spirits around them which are able to read and to record their most secret thoughts - what really happens. They would feel themselves as constrained as prisoners. Therefore, such people would be prevented from exercising their free-will if they knew that there is no real 'secrecy'. That's a reason why the forgetfullness of the past is so necessary for us |
