The different soul conditions in the spiritual world. The different categories of inhabited worlds. The Earth's destiny. - Causes of human miseries. - Instructions from the spirits: Superior and inferior worlds. Worlds of trials and atonement. Regeneration worlds. The evolution of the worlds.

1. Do not let your heart be troubled. Believe in God. Believe also in me. There are many mansions in God's house. If it was not so, I would have told you. I will go to prepare a place for you. After having prepared a place for you I will come again and receive you to myself, so that you may also be where I am. (John 14:1-3.)

The different soul conditions in the spiritual world

2. The Universe is the God's house. The different mansions are the spheres that circulate in the infinite space. They offer to the spirits that incarnate on them dwelling places which match their advancement degree.

Apart from the globes diversity, those words of Jesus also apply to the soul's happiness degree in the spiritual world. The spirit's environment, sensations, perceptions, the look of things, everything infinitely varies depending on the soul's degree of purity and freedom from material attractions. While some spirits are unable to leave the surroundings where they lived, others raise and travel all over the space and worlds. While some imprudent spirits wander through the darkness, the happy ones enjoy resplendent brightness and the sublime show of infinity. Finally, while guilty souls, tormented by remorse and grief, often alone, without solace, away from their affections, moan under the moral suffering torment, the righteous spirits, living with those they love, enjoy delights of an indescribable happiness. Also in this sense there are many mansions, although they are not bounded nor localized.

The different categories of inhabited worlds

3. Spirits teach that the various world's conditions differ very much, depending on the evolution degree of their inhabitants. In some worlds, humans are both physically and morally inferior to the earthlings. In others, they are at the same category. There are still other worlds, whose inhabitants are more or less superior in all regards. In the inferior worlds, existence is entirely material. Passions fully reign. Morality is almost null. However, as the moral life unfolds, the matter influence decreases. Morality evolves in such a way that life in the most advanced worlds is, someway, completely spiritual.

4. The intermediate worlds mix good and evil, predominating one or other depending on the moral advancement degree of their inhabitants. It is impossible to accurately categorize all the worlds. However, based on their states, destinies and predominant features, we can abstractedly divide them as follows. Primitive worlds, destined to receive the human spirit initial incarnations. Worlds of trials and atonement, where evil predominates. Regeneration worlds, where souls who still have to atone absorb new strength, resting from the struggle fatigue. Happy worlds, where goodness overcomes evil. Celestial or divine worlds, inhabited by pure spirits, where goodness reigns exclusively. Earth is a world of trials and atonement. This is why we, earthlings, live side by side with so many miseries.

5. Spirits who incarnate in a certain world are not indefinitely bound to it, nor go through on it all the progress phases toward perfection. When reaching the highest advancement level that their world can offer, spirits pass on to a more elevated globe, and so on, successively, till they be pure. The different worlds are like stations, where the spirits find the progress elements required by their evolution needs. Ascending to a higher level world is a reward for them. In contrast, extending their stay on a miserable world or, due to their evil obstinacy, being exiled to an unhappier world, are punishments for them.

The Earth's situation - Causes of human miseries

6. On Earth there are so many evils, wicked passions, miseries and diseases that someone may get astonished and conclude that the human being is a very deplorable species. But such judgement would come from a narrow point of view, that offers a false idea of the whole. Humanity embraces all the reason-endowed beings that inhabit the innumerable orbs of the universe. The planet Earth shelters only a small fraction of humanity. The Earth's population compares with total universe's population as much as a tiny village compares with a gigantic nation. The low material and moral situation of the earthly humanity is expected, as we consider the Earth's mission and its inhabitants' evolution degree.

7. We would be very mistaken if we judged a city only by those who live in its lowest and most sordid places. In a hospital, we see sick and mutilated people. In a prison, we find vileness and vice. In an unhealthy region, most of its inhabitants are pale, faint and sickly. If we consider the Earth as a skid row, a hospital, a prison and an unhealthy place, and the planet is simultaneously all of this, then we will understand why afflictions overcome joy, as nobody sends to hospital the healthy ones, nor to jail the innocent ones, and hospitals and prisons are not supposed to be happy places.

As the total population of a city is not found in hospitals and prisons, the whole humanity is not found on the Earth. As the sick ones leave hospital after healing, and the convicts leave prison after their terms, humans leave the Earth after the cure of their moral diseases.

INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE SPIRITS

Inferior and superior worlds

8. Rating the inferior and superior worlds is a more relative than absolute task. A world is inferior or superior relatively to others, which are above or below it on the progress gauge.

We may have an idea of an inferior world by supposing that its inhabitants are similar to the primitive or barbarous peoples which lived on Earth, remnants of its primeval state. The inhabitants of the most backward worlds are, somehow, rudimentary creatures. Although having the human shape, they are totally devoid of beauty. Their instincts are far away from any delicacy, benevolence and justice sense. Brute force is the only law they know. Without industry and inventions, they live seeking food. However, God never abandons any creature. At the bottom of the darkest intelligence there is a latent intuition, more or less developed, of a supreme being. This cognition is enough to make one superior to another and to prepare their rise to a more complete life, because they are not despicable beings, but growing children.

Between inferior and superior levels there are lots of steps. Among the pure, matter-free and glory-resplendent souls, we hardly recognize the primitive spirits they once were, just like in an adult we hardly identify the embryo.

9. In worlds that have reached an advanced level, the moral and material life are very much superior than on Earth. As everywhere, the bodily shape there is human, but more beautiful, perfected and, above all, purified. The body is free from earthly materiality. So, it is free from necessities, sickness and deterioration that matter predominance provokes. More refined, their senses have perceptions that the rude earthly matter blocks. The body specific lightness allows quick and easy locomotion. Instead of heavily dragging over the ground, humans can, somehow, depending on their will, slide above surface or glide through the air, alike the angels or Elysian fields' manes that painters have portrayed. In those worlds, spirits can, according to their will, keep their past incarnation features and show themselves as they have been known, but radiating a divine light and transfigured by their always-elevated inner impressions. Instead of colorless countenances, devastated by suffering and passions, life and intelligence present a shine that painters try to portray through the halo of saints.

The slight resistance that matter offers to those very advanced spirits allows the body development to be fast, shortening childhood very much. Without worries and distress, life is comparatively much longer than on Earth, because longevity is generally proportional to each world advancement level. Death never means the decomposition horror. Far from being dreadful, decease is even considered a happy transformation, because there is no doubt about the future. During life, the soul, free from dense matter, emits and enjoys a lucidity which allows it an almost permanent status of emancipation and free thought transmission.

10. In those happy worlds, the always-friendly relationship between peoples is never disturbed. There is not any ambition to dominate a neighbor nor the resultant wars. There is no master, no slave, no birth-privileged one. Only moral and intellectual superiority establishes different ranks and grants supremacy. Authority is always respected, because it is granted after merit and fairly exerted. The humans there, struggling for self-perfection, don't try rising higher than their neighbors, but higher than themselves. Their goal is reaching the pure spirits' category. But, far from being a torment, this never-ending desire is a noble ideal, which motivates them to strive, intending to evolve. In those worlds, all tender and elevated human feelings are magnified and purified. Hate, petty jealousies and envy lusts are unknown. Ties of love and fraternity unite all people. The stronger helps the weaker. Possessions are proportional to each one's intelligence, but nobody suffers from want, because no one needs atonement. In short, there is no evil in those worlds.

11. In yours, you still need evil in order to value goodness; darkness, in order to admire light; sickness, to appreciate health. In the happy worlds, such contrasts are unnecessary. The soul's eternal light, beauty and serenity allow a neverending happiness, which is free from being disturbed by material anguishes and reckless spirits, who are unable to enter there. On the Earth, people hardly understand these concepts. Although enough skillful to portray the Hell's torments, they have never figured out the Heaven's joys. Why? Because, being inferior, they have only known pain and misery, and have never seen the celestial brightness. So, they cannot depict the unknown. However, as humans rise and cleanse their souls, they open horizons and begin understanding the goodness ahead, just like they have understood the evil behind.

12. The happy worlds are not privileged globes. God is impartial and, without bias, provides the same rights and opportunities to all their children, making everyone to begin at the same point. Everyone is allowed to access the highest ranks. It is up to each one to quickly arrive up there, through their own efforts, or to remain creeping, for centuries and centuries long, in the humanity's quagmire. (Summary of teachings transmitted by superior spirits.)

Worlds of trials and atonement

13. In order to know the atonement worlds, it suffices to look at your planet. The intelligence and inborn qualities of many Earth's inhabitants indicate they already lived and achieved a certain evolution level. So, Earth is a planet destined to receive spirits more advanced than the newly-created ones.

Nevertheless, the earthly humans' tendency to many vices indicates a huge moral imperfection. This is why God has placed them on an ungrateful world. On Earth they can, through heavy work and life miseries, atone for their faults until they deserve rising to a happier planet.

14. However, not all the spirits who incarnate on Earth are atoning. The peoples you call savage comprise souls that just left spiritual childhood. On Earth they educate and develop through contact with more advanced spirits. Next, there are the semi-civilized peoples, made up of the same spirits, going toward progress. These are, somehow, earthly indigenous peoples who, little by little, have been evolving through the long centuries, some of them having reached the intellectual level of the more enlightened peoples.

The spirits who atone on Earth are, somehow, foreigners. They already lived in other worlds, where they were excluded from due to their persistent wickedness. For having harmed the peaceful humans they were exiled, for a time, to a backward environment. Carrying more developed intelligence and the kernel of acquired knowledge, here they were entrusted to help the primitive souls to advance. The life's pains more sorely hurt the civilized peoples, because their moral sense is more developed than the primitive's. This is why the outcast spirits usually incarnate among the more intelligent peoples.

15. There are infinite kinds of atonement worlds. Earth is an example. These worlds serve as exile places for the spirits that resist the God's laws. There, these souls have to simultaneously fight against both human evil and nature's severity. This painful work develops, at the same time, qualities of heart and brain. In such way God, with inexhaustible goodness, turns a punishment into a benefit for their spiritual evolution. - Saint Augustine. (Paris, 1862.)

Regeneration worlds

16. Among the scintillating stars in the sky there are many worlds like yours, destined by God for trials and atonement! But there are also many unhappier, transition and happier worlds. We can call the transition globes regeneration worlds.

The planetary systems comprise primitive, exile, atonement, regeneration and happy spheres. We have spoken about worlds that shelter the newborn souls, still unaware of good and evil. There they, using their free-will, can start walking toward God in a self-determined way. We have also revealed that human souls are given broad powers, which enable them to practice the good. But, alas! There are those who fail! Allowing their existences to continue, God, with infinite goodness, lets them go to atonement worlds. There, incarnation by incarnation, they can purify themselves, evolve and return, worthy of the glory that humans are destined to.

17. The regeneration worlds serve as intermediary steps between atonement and happy worlds. There, the penitent souls find calm and rest, and can complete their purification. But on those worlds humans are still subject to the laws which rule matter. They still feel your sensations and desires. Nevertheless, they are freed from ungoverned enslaving passions, heart-chilling pride, torturing envy and choking hate. The word love is written in all faces. Perfect fairness presides the social relationships. Fulfilling the divine laws, everyone acknowledges God and tries going toward the Creator.

But, although those worlds already have a bliss dawning, happiness is still imperfect there. Humans are still made up of flesh and blood. So, they are still subject to misfortunes which only the fully spiritual beings are freed of. They still have to undergo trials, but without the atonement anguish.

Compared to Earth, those worlds are very much pleasant. They allow the after-storm calm, the post-sickness recovery. Most of you would be glad to inhabit them. There, less tied to material problems, humans better glimpse the future. They understand the greatness of the future life's happiness that the Omnipotent promises to the worthy ones. The free soul hovers above all the horizons. No more material and crude senses. There are only senses of pure and celestial perispirits, able to absorb the God's very emanations, through the divine love and charity aura.

18. But in those worlds humans are still fallible. The evil spirit retains part of its empire yet. Remaining inert is the same as to recede. If humans waver following the goodness path, they may have to return to an atonement world, where awfuller trials await them.

So at night, by your prayer and rest time, think of the infinite spheres which shine in the sky. Look for the ones that lead toward God. Ask the Creator that, after your atonement on Earth, a regeneration world may open its doors to you. - Saint Augustine. (Paris, 1862.)

The evolution of the worlds

19. Progress is a law of nature. Thanks to the kindness of God, who wants the universal greatness and prosperity, all the Creation beings, animate and inanimate, are subject to the progress law. Even destruction, which may look like the end of everything, is a step of a transformation process that leads to a more evolved status. All dies to revive. Nothing suffers annihilation.

At the same time the living beings morally progress, their worlds materially evolve. If we could watch the evolution steps of a globe, since the binding of its first atoms, we would see it continuously progressing, but with unnoticeable advances at each generation, offering a better home to its inhabitants as they also follow the progress pathway. At the same time humans advance, animals - their friends -, vegetables and housing also evolve, because nothing in Creation remains stopped. How glorious and worthy of Creator's majesty this idea is! On the contrary, how paltry and unsuitable with God's power is the concept that concentrates the divine care on a tiny grit called Earth and restricts humanity to a few people who live on this planet!

According to the progress law, Earth has evolved from a materially and morally inferior status, and will reach, on both topics, a higher rank. Time has come for one of its transformations to happen. Earth will no longer be a world of atonement. It will become a regeneration world. So, the earthly humans will be happy because the God's laws will reign. - Saint Augustine. (Paris, 1862.)
