The
gentle yoke. - The promised Consoler. - Instructions
from the spirits: Advent
of the Truth Spirit. The gentle yoke
1. Come to me all you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke to you and learn of me, that am meek and lowly in heart, and you will find rest to your souls, for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30.)1 2. All people who experience misery, disappointment, pain and loss of beloved ones can obtain consolation from faith in the future and confidence in divine justice. But those who deny the Supreme Love and expect nothingness after this life are heavily struck by life afflictions. They lack hope of spiritual relief. But Jesus calls everyone when he says “Come to me all you that are fatigued and I will give you rest.” The assistance and happiness Jesus promises to the afflicted ones depend, however, on fulfillment of the law he teaches. His yoke is the obedience of his law. But his yoke is easy and his law is gentle, because they only require love and charity as duty. The promised Consoler 3. If you love me keep my commandments and I will pray to God. And the Almighty will send you another Consoler that may abide with you forever: the Truth Spirit, whom the world cannot receive because the world sees it not neither knows it. But you will know it, for it will stay with you and it will be in you. The Consoler, which is, the Holy Spirit whom God will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you everything I have said to you. (John 14: 15-17 and 26.) 4. Jesus promises another consoler, the Truth Spirit, which the world was unable to know because people lacked enough maturity to understand it. This Consoler was to be sent by God in order to teach humankind all things and to remind us of all teachings of Jesus. Therefore, as the Truth Spirit was to come later, in order to teach additional subjects, then Christ did not tell us everything. Besides, as the Truth Spirit was to come to remind us of what Jesus had said, then the Christ's teachings have been forgotten or improperly understood. Spiritism, that is, the doctrine taught by the godly spirits, has come at the predicted time to fulfill the Christ's promise. The Truth Spirit presides its constitution. Spiritism calls humankind to obey the divine law. It teaches all things and clarifies what Jesus had taught through parables. Christ warns: “Listen those who have ears to hear.” Spiritism opens eyes and ears because it speaks clearly and discloses mysteries. It brings a great consolation to the disinherited people and to all who suffer, by assigning fair cause and useful purpose to all pain. Christ says: “Blessed are the afflicted for they will be consoled.” But sufferers can hardly feel fortunate if they ignore the reason why they suffer. The Spiritist philosophy shows the cause of suffering in the past existences and in the destiny of the Earth, planet on which humans atone for their past. Spiritism explains the purpose of suffering, by presenting it as a cure treatment, as well as a purification process that strengthens us and ensures our happiness in future existences. From this, people can understand that they deserve and need suffering, and that it is fair and useful. Spiritism also teaches that pain helps us to advance. Thereby people begin accepting hardship as a process, as a challenge, just like the worker accepts the job that ensures payment. Spiritism provides an unshakable faith in God. No more consuming doubts. New perspectives open up. The wide and gorgeous horizon which Spiritism sets up lowers the importance of earthly misfortunes. Justice certainty and expectation of a better life in the future provide patience, submission and courage to carry on, up to the path end. Performing what Jesus says about the promised Consoler, Spiritism allows people to know where they came from, why they are on the Earth and where they are going to. It attracts humankind towards the true principles of God's law and offers consolation through faith and hope.
INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE SPIRITS
Advent of the Truth Spirit 5. As I once came to the strayed people of Israel, I have come to dissipate darkness and bring truth. Listen to me! As my words did in the past, Spiritism reminds the unbelievers that above them the immutable truth reigns: the good God, the great God, who makes the seeds to germinate and the waves to rise up. As a reaper, I gathered in sheaves the goodness scattered in humanity breast and said: “Come to me all you who suffer.” But, reckless, humans have turned away from the straight path that leads to the God's Kingdom and have followed the rough wickedness pathways. The Eternal does not want to annihilate the human species. The Divine Mercy wishes you to mutually help, assisting one another, alive and dead, that is, fleshly dead, because death does not exist. God wants you to listen not only to the voice of the prophets and apostles, but specially of those who no longer live upon the Earth to proclaim: Pray and believe! Death is resurrection. Life is the ordeal you sought, during which the virtues you have cultivated will grow up and develop as the cedar tree. Fallible humans, who admit the darkness of your own minds: hold the beacon the Divine Clemency puts into your hands to enlighten your pathway and lead you again, lost children, to the Supreme Goodness' bosom. I am too much compassionate about your miseries and huge weakness. So, I offer helping hands to all the unhappily strayed ones who, while looking up to Heaven, have fallen into the error trap. Believe, love and meditate on these teachings which are being revealed to you. Don't mix darnel with the good seed nor utopias with the truth. Spiritists! Love one another. This is the first precept. Instruct yourselves. This is the second. All truths are contained in Christianity. The errors that contaminated it have human origin. From beyond the grave, where you have supposed there was just emptiness, voices cry out: “Brothers and sisters! Nothing perishes! Jesus Christ is the winner over all evil! Be you victors over impiety!” - The Truth Spirit. (Paris, 1860.)
6.
I have come to instruct and solace. Oh poor disinherited! Raise up
your submission to the level of your trials. Weep, because pain was
sacred in the Olive Garden. But wait and hope, because consoling
angels will dry your tears. Verily I say to you that those who bear their burdens and assist their neighbors are my beloved ones. Instruct yourselves in this precious doctrine that dissipates the revolt mistake and shows the sublime purpose of human tribulation. As the wind sweeps the dust, so let the blow of the spirits take away your spite against the worldly privileged people, who are often very pitiable because they are subject to trials more dangerous than yours. I am with you, and my apostle instructs you. Life captives! Drink from the living love spring. Be prepared to launch yourselves one day, free and happy, upon the bosom of the Eternal, who created you weak to render you perfectible, and who wants you to mold your own pliable clay, so that you may be the authors of your own immortality. - The Truth Spirit. (Paris, 1861.) 7. I am the great doctor of souls. I have come to bring the remedy that will cure you. The weak, the sufferers and the sick are my favorite children. l am come to save them. Then come to me all you who suffer and are oppressed, and you will be alleviated and comforted. Avoid searching for strength and consolation elsewhere, because the world is unable to provide them. God sends a supreme appeal to your hearts by means of Spiritism. Listen to it. From your aching soul remove impiety, lies, error and incredulity. They are monsters who suck your purest blood and open deadly wounds. In the future let you, humble and submissive to the Supreme Majesty, keep the divine law. Love and pray. Be docile to the godly spirits. Call the Great Potentate from the bottom of your hearts. Then the Almighty's beloved son will come to instruct you and to say these good words: “I am come because you called me.” - The Truth Spirit. (Bordeaux, 1861.) 8.
God solaces the humble and provides strength to the afflicted who ask
it. The Divine Power covers the Earth. God places everywhere, beside
each tear, a consoling remedy. 1 Jesus may be understood as the love personification. Thus, whenever the Gospel alludes to Jesus, as in this passage, it actually refers to love and charity rather than the very person of Jesus. Words as “Christ saves” and “Jesus is the way, truth and life” can be better interpreted as “Charity saves” and “Love is the way, truth and life.” - Versionist's note.
