Prayer to ask for advice

24. Introduction. Whenever we are unsure about doing an act or abstaining from it we should ask ourselves three questions: Can what I am hesitant to perform harm someone else? Might it be useful to someone? If someone else did it to me, would I be happy about it?

If the act affects only ourselves we should evaluate its advantages and disadvantages. When it reaches other people then if helping one means harming another then we must carefully weigh the sum of good and evil. Finally, even for the best things we must consider opportunity, surrounding circumstances and preparedness, because even a very helpful resource may bring bad results in unskillful hands. In all cases we can always ask for the God's help, recalling the teaching which says: If in doubt, abstain yourself.1

25. Prayer. Almighty God! I ask you to inspire me to make the best decision. Direct my thought to the good and protect me from the influence of those who tempt me.
