Prayer for deathtime

40. Introduction. Faith in the future and clear conscience help the soul to free itself from matter. The moribund's peace of mind weakens their body-spirit bond and allows their journey to the great beyond to start even before the complete end of corporeal life. On the other hand, the ties between soul and flesh are stronger for those who focus their attention on material existence. Therefore, their disincarnation is often painful and their awakening in the beyond-grave reality tends to be fraught with trouble and anxiety. In all cases, however, we can implore divine mercy.

41. Prayer. My God, I believe in your infinite goodness! It is unwise to believe that you have given humans intelligence, conscience and hope only to plunge us into nothingness.

I believe my body is a perishable envelope of my soul. I know I will awaken in the spiritual world as soon as my body stops breathing.

Almighty God! I sense my soul-body link is breaking. Soon I will have to give an account for the way I used the corporeal life I am leaving behind.

I will experience the consequences of the good and the bad I have done. In the spiritual world, the real one, there is no illusion, no cheating, no evasion. My past will rise before me and I will be judged according to my actions.

My possessions will stay on Earth along with titles, riches and satisfaction of vanity, pride and selfishness. In short, everything connected with the body will remain in the material world. No part of it will follow me. No bit of it will help me in the spiritual homeland. With me I will take only what belongs to my soul, that is, its good and bad qualities, which will be weighed in the scales of the fairest justice. Power and resources bestowed on me to do the good will be evaluated. The more I have misused or abused them, the harsher my judgment will be.1

God of Mercy! May my regret reach your feet! Please deign to extend your indulgence to me!

If you see fit to prolong my current incarnation, I will strive to use the additional time to make amends for the wrong I have done. If my time is up then I feel comforted, because I know that I will be allowed to redeem myself through future reincarnations, so that, one day, I may deserve the bliss of the righteous.

If I am still morally underqualified to enjoy this bliss then I can keep my hope alive because I will qualify, sooner or later, according to my own effort.

I know the good spirits and my guardian angel are nearby to welcome me. Soon I will see them as they see me.

If I deserve it, I will be able to find my loved ones again, both they who departed before me and those whom I am just leaving behind. I know that one day we will reunite and that, until then, if I deserve permission to do so, I will visit them.

I am aware that I will also meet again those ones I harmed. May they forgive my pride, my selfishness, my injustice, so that I might feel less humiliated in their presence!

I sincerely forgive all those who have harmed me or wished evil on me. I bear no hate for them. I ask you, my God, to forgive them all.

Supreme Majesty of the Universe! Give me strength to easily leave the gross pleasures of this world, which are just illusions compared to the true joys of the dimension I am about to enter, which, for the righteous, is free from torment, suffering and misery. Only the guilty suffer there, but hope remains beside them.

Good spirits! And you, my guardian angel! Please help me to be successful in this important transition. Shine the divine light on my soul, to strengthen my faith if it wavers.2
