Prayer for the sick
77. Introduction. Sickness is a consequence of both the primitive nature of earthly embodiment and the imperfection of our souls. Pride, selfishness, resentment, fear, fretfulness, addiction and all other destructive passions create wounds in the spirit. These soul’s invisible injuries silently corrode the body. In morally advanced worlds harmful passions ceased to exist. In addition, bodies over there are less material and more perfected. Therefore the beings who live on the evolved realms are more likely to be healthy.1 But despite our corporeal restraints, we must take proper care of our bodies. This begins by continually harmonizing our mental attitude, intentions and acts with the love law. When proceeding this way, we reduce formation of spiritual ulcers and their fleshly manifestations. We should also adopt proper eating and exercising habits. When falling ill, we should seek the medical science healing resources within our reach. However, in spite of all care in favor of health, disease may inevitably spread over the body. But God is pure love! To better understand how the divine goodness is present even in the case of an incurable sickness, it is important to remind that we are eternal and that a major objective of reincarnation is soul’s purification. Aware of this, we can grasp the best treatment for cleansing a spiritual wound may be transferring such damage to the body, which, in such process, works as a sink of noxious energy. After having disembodied at the time determined by God, the treated spirit will find itself relieved of a malady that had been tormenting it for years, perhaps centuries or even millennia. But this spiritual therapy only works if the sick one resignedly accepts it. If the patient rebels against the illness, they will probably suffer uselessly, as their revolt will prevent the soul's tumor from being absorbed by the body. Thus the spirit healing mechanism sometimes demands the body corrosion. This process highlights the divine mercy: through deterioration of body, that is temporary, the spirit, which is eternal, gets healed. In any case of illness, heartfelt prayer and Christian resignation are great contributions we can provide to our own good. Alongside medical procedures we can also seek the resource of healing mediumship. Depending on each situation, it could present meaningful benefit, provided the medium is serious and desinterested.2
78. Prayer. (To be said by the sick person.) My God, I submit to your infinite wisdom! If it pleases you restoring my health, may your holy name be praised! But if I still have to keep sick, may your name also be glorified! I accept without complaint your decision, because everything you authorize is providential. God! If this infirmity is a warning for me, help me to make a self-assessment. I accept this illness as a probation and, if applicable, as an atonement for my past.3
79. Prayer. (For the sick person.) My God! Cast a glance of your infinite compassion upon [person's name]. Alleviate their affliction. If you see fit, put an end on it! Good spirits! I beg you to help relieving this fellow human. May my thought contribute for a balm to cover their body, and may a consolation appease their soul. Inspire them with patience and trust in the God's will. Give them strength to bear hardship with resignation, so that they could avail the fruits of this challenging experience.4
80. Prayer. (To be said by the healing medium.) My God! I know I am unworthy but if it pleases you to use myself as a healing tool, here I am at your service. I trust in you! I know your love is the very source of cure. Allow the good spirits to concentrate wholesome resources on me, and consent me to serve as a channel for transferring these beneficial means to this patient. In order to protect this treatment, help me to reject all proud and selfish thoughts.
