| Allan Kardec's The Gospel According to Spiritism (2021 version by Cesar Bezerra) CHAPTER 28. PRAYERS (part 4 of 34) |
||
Prayer for the medium 8. The Lord says, “In the last days I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young will have visions. Your elderly will have dreams. In those days I will pour out my spirit upon servants and maids, and they will prophesy.” (Acts 2:17-18.)
9. Introduction. God wants light to shine for everyone without distinction. So the spirits' voices are coming everywhere, in raising numbers, to present the immortality proof and point the moral pathway for a better future. The spirits manifest through people who are endowed with special organic characteristics, which allow them to serve as a channel between the incarnated and the discarnate. These intermediary people are called mediums. As Jesus warns us, everyone can be a medium: elderly or young, women or men, poor or rich. The increasing manifestation of the disembodied is one of the signs that indicate the prophesied times are come. In order to let people to interact with the material world, God provides them bodily senses. To enable them to interact with the spiritual world, the Almighty grants them mediumship. The spirits are come to perform a work which is divine because it clarifies the horizons of eternal life. The task of the spirits is neither sparing the medium from work nor favoring the medium's greed. Thus all mediums should clearly understand the following requirement: mediumship is a high-responsibility mission which is to be fulfilled for free in a serious, humble and selfless way. So, mediums are forbidden to interact with beyond-grave beings for profit, entertainment, curiosity or any other reckless purpose. As interpreters of the spirits' teachings, mediums play an important role in the moral transformation that is taking place. The quality of the mediums' work is as good as the direction they assign to their ability. The morally-falling mediums are more harmful than useful. They will have to render a severe account of their mediumship, which should be used for the good. Mediums should work for their own moral advancement. Those who desire their faculty to develop must grow ethically and abstain from anything that might divert them from their task. The superior spirits may sometimes work with an imperfect medium, so that they might avail the interaction opportunity to advise the very medium, but they go away when their warnings keep ignored. Then the unwary intermediary is left alone, open to the evil spirits' action.1 In such case, the meaningful messages the medium received before begins degenerating and, little by little, end up into foolishness, verbosity, error or misguidance. Such a contents corruption indicates backward spirits replaced the evolved ones. All of us should watch and pray. This guidance applies even more specially to a medium, because mediumship uses to become a dangerous trouble to the imprudent intermediary. Rather than boasting due to an ability which may be canceled anytime, the wary mediums thank God for every valued interaction they perform. If a communication receives criticism, the wise mediums reflect whether they have been able enough to oppose the interference of wicked spirits. If a message merits praise, they abstain from bragging because they know authorship is of others, and thank God for having allowed advanced spirits to manifest. Consequently, the prudent mediums frequently pray, asking God wisdom for they to fulfill their mission. 10. Prayer. God, permit the good spirits to assist me in the interaction that is about to be. Prevent me from thinking that I am safe from the evil spirits' action. Protect me from pride, because it can deceive me about the worth of the communication I obtain. Keep me from all feelings contrary to charity. If I am induced to error, inspire someone to warn me, and grant me humility to accept the criticism and interpret the spirits' advice as directed to myself, and not to others.
If
I am prone to abuse mediumship, or to flatter myself for it, I beg
you to remove it rather than allowing it to be diverted from its
providential purpose, which is the good of all and my own moral
advancement. 1 - See chapter 24, items 11 and 12.
