Prayer to God

30. Introduction. When looking for the cause of a misfortune, we often find imprudence or some other error of our own. In this case, we should attribute the problem only to ourselves. But sometimes the disturbance is independent of us. Then such difficulty is either a trial for the present life or an atonement of a past existence moral failure. In the latter case, the type of challenge allows us to understand the nature of the flaw, as life leads us to correct our imperfection.1

We see the present ill but hardly glimpse its useful consequences. Good can come after a temporary anguish, just as healing can come from an uncomfortable treatment. We must bravely face trials if we desire to learn their lessons. In so doing, these words of Christ will become applicable to us: Blessed are they who suffer.2

31. Prayer. Dear God, you are supremely righteous. Every unavoidable problem has cause and purpose. I accept the pain I am experiencing because I know it has something important to teach me.

Good spirits! Help me find the hidden strength I have so that I can bravely face this situation. Let the hardship work for me as a healthy warning. May this hurdle increase my experience and contribute to my spiritual advancement. May it also lessen my pride, ambition, vanity and selfishness.

32. (Other). Dear God, I need to talk to you! Give me strength to overcome life's challenges. Allow the light to shine brightly in my spirit so I can see the way forward and understand the full extent of your love. I submit to your will, my God, and I do so without protest. I know you only want the best for me, but we humans are weak. So support me, my God! Hold my hand, so I can wake up and learn all the lessons life presents to me. I am nothing without you!

33. (Other). I lift my eyes to you, Eternal One, and I feel strengthened. You are my hope. Be with me! Dear God, I feel crushed under the weight of my mistakes. So help me! You know the weakness of my flesh. Give me your hand!

I feel a burning thirst. Pour over me your fountain of living water and I will be refreshed. May my mouth open only to praise you and never to complain. I am weak, my God, but your love sustains me.

Supreme Majesty, only you are great! Only you are the real motive for my life. May your name be praised even when the school of life strikes me, for you are the guide to follow, and I am but an unfaithful apprentice. I bow without complaint, for only you are the goal!
