God
(Part 2)
Text below comes from The Spirits' Book, by Allan Kardec
(Book First - Causes. Chapter I)

What about the opinion which attributes the first things formation to a random matter combination, in other words, to chance?

"An absurdity. Which wise person could consider chance as an intelligent agent? Besides, what is chance? Nothing!"

The harmony which regulates the universe mechanism can only result from combinations adopted in view of predetermined ends. Thus, by its very nature, such harmony reveals the existence of an Intelligent Power. To attribute the first things formation to random does not make sense, because chance cannot produce the results of intelligence. If random could be intelligent it would cease to be random.

What proof do we have that the first cause of all things is a Supreme Intelligence, superior to all other intelligence?

"You have a proverb which says the worker is known by their work. Look around you and from the work quality infer that of the worker."

We judge the power of an intelligence by its works. No human can create that which is produced by nature. It is evident that the first cause must be an intelligence superior to human.

Whatever may be the prodigies accomplished by human intelligence, this intelligence itself must have a cause, and the greater are the results it achieves, the greater must be the cause, of which it is just an effect. This Supreme Intelligence is the first cause of everything, whatever the name by which humanity may call It.

What is God?

"God is the Supreme Intelligence - first cause of everything."

What is to be understood by infinity?

"That which has neither beginning nor end; the unknown. All that is unknown is infinite.''

Can we say that God is infinity?

"Incomplete definition. Poverty of human speech, unable to define what transcends human intelligence."

God is infinite in perfection but "infinity" is an abstraction. To say that God is infinity is to replace a thing attribute for the thing itself, and to define something unknown by a reference to some other thing equally unknown.
